Surfing in Sri Lanka

From beginner to expert we know just the right spot to surf in Sri Lanka for you on any given day and if you’re on a “day off “we know just where to send you and when. The consistency of the surf is amazing which of course suits you and our coaching.

We have spent a year checking uncrowded breaks of  Sri Lanka that offer you and your coaches the perfect combination of glassy rideable peaks and bubbling lines of white water that the super warm Indian Ocean gives us.

What we like most, having coached for so many years, is that we know these waves are so learning curve friendly. Sometimes challenging maybe but never threatening and if there was one word to some up these waves it’s that word fun again.

We are based in the Southern area of Sri Lanka, in the Kabalana area. The area offers surf spot after surf spot and many of these breaks are uncrowded for much of the time, especially in the early mornings. Surfing in Sri Lanka rarely gets better than this.

South Sri Lanka has a two distinct surf seasons and we concentrate much of our coaching from October till May. This time of year offers those glassy tropical slides you have in your dreams. From June till September there are tons of waves but often wind affected, but we know the spots to get the most out of your time with us at Surf School Sri Lanka.

SURF SAFETY DAYS IN SRI LANKA

In working closely with the local surfing community we could see that basic surf safety and rescue first aid was something that Sri Lankan surfers and instructors really wanted to know about and need.
So with the backing of the Sri Lankan Minister for Sport Mr Dayasiri Jayasekara and the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka and Ride with Local we launched our International Surfing Association Surf Safety Days initiative.

These are half day courses where Sri Lankan surfers and instructors can turn up free of charge and learn the basic skills of in water rescue pickups, CPR Resuscitation, casualty care and basic first aid.
The first course was held at Arugam Bay and was a great success with 50 participants taking part over 2 days. Although all who took part said they learnt lots we also had one heck of a lot of fun too and the mix between peoples , schools and faiths was magic.
Surf School Sri Lanka Director Tim Jones has been instrumental in the founding of Sri Lanka’s first national surfing governing body called Surfing Federation of Sri Lanka, you can find out more on their Facebook page, please like and follow!
