SURF SAFETY DAYS
In working closely with the local surfing community we could see that basic surf safety and rescue first aid was something that Sri Lankan surfers and instructors really wanted to know about and need.
So with the backing of the Sri Lankan Minister for Sport Mr Dayasiri Jayasekara and the Life Saving Association of Sri Lanka we launched our International Surfing Association Surf Safety Days initiative.

These are half day courses where Sri Lankan surfers and instructors can turn up free of charge and learn the basic skills of in water rescue pickups, CPR Resuscitation, casualty care and basic first aid.
The first course was held at Arugam Bay and was a great success with 50 participants taking part over 2 days. Although all who took part said they learnt lots we also had one heck of a lot of fun too and the mix between peoples, schools and faiths was magic.

The next day was held at Matara and the scheme is being taken around all the surfing spots of the Sri Lankan coast.
